the librarian’s ears glitter rainbows, a silent unicorn behind the desk.
i scan the book in the bottom of my backpack, cut off the pages, third time in a week. the manager at the rec center, a soft cactus wide eyes, scans my entry, i blink three times, configuring her succulence in my mind. I take dance from a unicorn, next to her husband, Bob Ross in workout clothes. A three foot witch returns her library books, the machine munching them slowing, one at a time into the library tomb. Mouse ears sprout from her pointy hat, as i wake from the dream, to remember it is Halloween.
