Shattered Pieces

My heart stops as the photo frame smashes.

What have I just done?

I kneel down and look at our distorted photograph. Your eyes are sloping, and your mouth is crooked. Still, I can recognise your lovely smile. You used to be so charming.

I start pitying your warped image, but then I see myself.
“I’m actually happy there. I’ve forgotten what happiness feels like”.

Really the new look is well suited. You were always warped.
“How dare you make me feel so insignificant . I deserve so much better”.

Without regret, I sweep our shattered pieces into the rubbish bin.
