Sixth Sense

The smell that sparks off
A chain of associations,
The sound that conjures up
A clear-cut picture,
The persistent feeling that nags
Deep within one’s bones,
The touch of buried knowledge
That seems completely baseless,
The strange and unknown memories
Which give one direction,
The guiding hand of purpose
That makes choice simple,
The unconscious and automatic response
That is always pertinent,
The blinding flash of inspiration
That gives second sight
And the many other manifestations
Of some mysterious power
Evince more than just another
Sense, perhaps a thousand.
