The Great Divide

Like a feline
we are born
like a kitten
perverted to a pet
yet fundamentally
a cat at heart
we are transplanted
from one womb
into another stronger
out of our depth
and like kittens
venturing out
into a garden
we first know love
of life and living
without sharing their
capacity to adapt
and strike a balance
between green grass
and the four walls
we take for granted
but which clash
along trains of thought
ingrained in experiences
to which we cannot
subscribe or even
resign ourselves
as much as a cat
