Playing the lottery, my way.
by Raul Perțe
I’ve been around for 7859 days and have never played the lottery because I know that the probability of me winning is way too small to create any hype.
TL;DR — Well, I made an app so I can play in my way.
Two weeks ago I was asked by an elderly relative if I could check the lotto results for them. Sure thing, I could have said „you didn’t win” without actually checking them numbers. The interesting thing here is that I saw the numbers he was playing: birthdate, month, number of dogs. You got the point.
We all know for a fact that the extracted numbers are totally random and not even mad witchery can manipulate them. Lottery extractions don't have birthdates or favorite numbers. There are patterns, but that's still a risky bet. Try to write down a random lotto number and it won’t be random anymore. That’s how our brain works.
Not conviced by the chances, nor being a gambling fan, I decided that it would be fun to turn this into a personal challenge. One day of research and I fired up Xcode & Sketch simultaneously. At the end of the day, I’m a doer. It felt extremely good to make this. I constantly think about goals as doing things you love and getting something in return, not about the amount of that something. In this case, it was getting the app on the AppStore.
Everythig past that point was extra, such as documenting my first lottery play.
Here are the numbers the app gave me and the 6 numbers that were extracted by the national lottery are: 22, 31, 30, 4, 42, 39.

Fun fact: Lotto ++ could have been my first exit. Only ten hours after being featured on Product Hunt, a guy representing a VC company from New York, iMessaged me if I would be interested in selling the whole concept.
