This one is called “Avec le temps on aime plus”.
The artist is to create a neon installation just like all the other artists whose art is going viral on Instagram. Unlike all other artists on Instagram, his installation needs to malfunction.
When I was in high school, our French teacher, Karl, made the class listen to Dalida’s “Avec le temps”. The last bit of the song goes like this:
“Avec le temps
Avec le temps, va, tout s’en va et l’on se sent blanchi
Comme un cheval fourbu et l’on se sent glacé
Dans un lit de hasard et l’on se sent tout seul
Peut-être, mais peinard
Et l’on se sent floué par les années perdues
Alors vraiment, avec le temps
On n’aime plus”
“Avec le temps, on n’aime plus” means “With time, we love no more”. But Karl pointed out how “on n’aime plus” sounds almost the same as “on aime plus”, which means “we love more”. Karl said that this was what Dalida actually meant: With time we love more.
The artist is to make sure the n’ in “avec le temps on n’aime plus” lights on and off intermittently. It’s important that it is lit on more often than off.
