This one is called “Safety beyond the restroom”.

Bathrooms and restrooms are some of the safest places we spend time in. It is no wonder that many of our ideas emerge in these spaces. “Safety beyond the restroom” aims at recreating that same feeling of safety beyond the restroom and the bathroom. The author of this piece is to design such safe spaces within the context of a museum or art gallery. The guidelines are as follows:

. The spaces are to contain a single comfortable chair
. The spaces are to have a door with a lock
. The spaces are to be spacious enough both in width and in height so as not to be immediately reminiscent of a restroom

It is important the audience doesn’t feel pressured to leave such spaces for others to enjoy them. The author is responsible for eliminating that feeling as part of the larger design in the case on an exhibit or give the spaces such low profile that their appeal doesn’t lead to a waiting line but to a serendipitous encounter between some attendees and the room.

One possible design of the “safe space”
