LCB has partnered with University of Waterloo to support the annual International Cannabis Policy Study focused on cannabis policy and public health.

The 2023 report used a representative sample of Washington’s population. Similar to prior research, this study found that ~40% of people used cannabis at least once in the past year. Of those who reported using cannabis, about half reported using cannabis for both medical and non-medical (recreational) reasons and about 7% were at high risk of having problematic cannabis use.

Here are three sneak peeks into the 2023 report for Washington State:

Sneak Peek #1

Most people who used cannabis in past year reported it had a positive effect on quality of life.

Graph displaying Reported Effects of Cannabis Use on Life in Past year. 52% of respondents said cannabis use had a positive effect on their mental health, and 51% said it had a positive impact on their quality of life. 47% said it had no impact on their physical health, 59% said it had no impact on their social life, and 62% said it had no impact on family relationships.

Sneak Peek #2

Knowledge on risks related to cannabis use varied across health topics.

Sneak Peek #3
