It is a new year and the Cannabis Central Reporting System (CCRS) is now the sole, official reporting system for cannabis business activity in Washington. CCRS replaced the Leaf traceability system with a more simplified records reporting system. Prior to launch, the system was tested by partners representing the range of users and functions the system needed to accommodate.

System Launch and Progress

The two-part transition to CCRS began on Dec. 6, 2021, when the system launched, opened to all licensees, labs, approved integrators and uploads of records were made in CCRS.

The system rolled out as new systems do — not perfect (none are), but successful. Since launch, business has not been halted and the system has not been “down” since “go live.” Roughly 80% of licensees are successfully transitioned to CCRS. The Enforcement and Education Division is reaching out directly to the remaining 20% to gauge what they need to make the transition. The initial focus is on education and technical support.

The Project is Transitioning

Since late November, an LCB team consisting of the CCRS Steering Committee and key staff met daily to report status activity, identify common challenges faced by the industry and address issues that need to be resolved. Things have since settled down and the team now meets weekly to address potential emergent issues and begin the transition from a “project” into an integrated part of “routine” business and support.

There remain additional technical fixes that we will address in the coming months. Included will be an attempt to address inefficiencies associated with producing manifests. The agency has identified businesses within the industry to engage on potential solutions.

Going Forward

The LCB’s top goal now is helping industry members who haven’t yet successfully transitioned to CCRS. All licensees are required to have transitioned and to be accurately and timely reporting their data.
