Long time Public Health Education Liaison, Mary Segawa retired at the start of 2024. We at the LCB are grateful to her for her many years of dedication to state government and public health. I would also like to extend my thanks to the many folks across the state and country who helped make Mary’s send off special!

In November 2023, I began the role of Public Health Education Liaison. I am a health educator by training with a decade of experience in substance use disorder prevention and harm reduction work. For the last ten years, I worked at the Washington State Department of Health (DOH). During my time at DOH, I managed campaigns for cannabis prevention and education, mental health promotion, tobacco prevention and cessation, opioid overdose prevention, and COVID-19.

I am excited to join the team at LCB and hope the first quarter of 2024 is a productive one! Some of my priorities include:

  1. Actively participating in the legislative process this session. In this role, that involves listening to stakeholder and partner feedback and providing education about the potential public health impacts of proposed legislation.
  2. Serving as a true liaison to partners and stakeholders as they offer feedback throughout the ongoing rulemaking process.
  3. Publishing the long-awaited alcohol education webpages!
  4. Getting acquainted with key stakeholders and acclimating into this role.

I look forward to learning more about the priorities of LCB’s stakeholders this year!
