Self-Confidence And Your Health

By: Kit Goolsby

Have you ever looked at yourself in the mirror and said, “wow I look really great today!” Self-confidence is one of the biggest struggles for all ages, genders, shapes, and sizes.

During the age of social media, it’s easy to get caught up in the “ideal” model look, but we have to remember that social media is fake! Unless you have endless amounts of money to spend on surgery, the best cosmetics, and personalized meals, you’re never going to reach that ideal image. Instead of setting unrealistic expectations for yourself, try opening yourself to self-love. You can also find tips on my Instagram here.

We’ve all heard the idea that change starts in the kitchen. Cutting out food groups, counting calories, and keeping a strict diet are no ways to show yourself compassion. Life’s delicacies are about moderation. If you deprive yourself from the foods that you love, your mind and body will be angry with you, lowering your self-esteem. Thinking that you need to reward yourself with a cupcake, food should never be a reward. Watching what you eat is important, but no more starving yourself of nutrients and foods your body is telling you it wants. Now, you might ask yourself, “how do I work off that cupcake?” The truth is you don’t have to. One cupcake isn’t going to ruin months of working on yourself from the inside out. Working out is a way we can boost our endorphins, release stress, and feel more powerful in everyday life. You can go as often as you like, switch up your workout, and find what makes you feel best. It’s important not to beat yourself for taking a day off. Instead tell yourself that you’re proud for taking a wellness day to recover. It’s just as important to take time to self-care than it is to exercise or eat a healthy meal. Once you start doing these things for yourself, you’ll notice that the voice in the back of your head telling you you’re not good enough, gets a little quieter every day.

Change doesn’t happen overnight, so again, it’s important to set realistic goals for yourself. You’re on nobody’s path but your own, it might look different than others, but realistically we all are going to the same place. Congratulate yourself every day for making it as far as you have and remember it doesn’t matter your age, gender, size, or shape, everyone is capable of self-confidence.
