Is God Evil? Genocide, Slavery, and the Hard Stuff
God is so misunderstood
Let’s be real: if you’ve ever read parts of the Bible or heard people criticize Christianity, you’ve probably come across some heavy accusations. People ask, “How can God be good if the Bible talks about things like genocide, slavery, and all kinds of nasty stuff?”
At first glance, it does look bad. I mean, who wouldn’t have questions about a God who seems to allow or even command things we find horrifying?
But here’s the thing: when you dig into the Bible and really understand what’s going on, it becomes clear.
God isn’t the bad guy here.

The Real Problem: Us, Not God
To understand why bad things like genocide and slavery exist, we have to go back to the beginning.
The world didn’t start off this broken. In Genesis 1, God created everything, and it was good. Humanity was made in His image, with free will—a choice to love Him or not.
But then Adam and Eve messed it up. They chose rebellion, and sin entered the picture (Genesis 3). From that point on, everything changed.
