You may read the title of this article as “live”, like going live or “on air” and that’s probably because you are used to technical terms and articles. I am not saying it’s a bad thing, but sometimes it gets out of control to the point where your feed and recommendations on medium, youtube and everywhere else are all technical (We know how it feels because we all were there at some point or still are).

From the title of this article, all we ask is to live, from the word living (aka breath and enjoy life). The hard truth is that we sometimes get very excited and focused on our studies, work, learning new things, being at the top, being better and if we can, being perfect. Well, it’s not a bad thing at all being ambitious and seeking better but within limits, yes, that’s the problem. When you are so in, so focused, craving more and you can’t stop that you even sacrifice sleep for it that’s, my friend, when you should stop.

See, as students and engineers in the field of technology, we need to keep up with the latest improvements, adapt as soon as possible and live to the high expectations, then as soon as we think we are ready for that, guess what? A new thing comes up, a new technology thrills us or a new different approach is simply imposed on us for study or work reasons, and this loop goes on and on.

You need to stop convincing yourselves that once you get this done you’ll rest or you’ll take a break or you’ll do something else, we all know that you won’t (and we won’t). In this article, we are not asking to stop and abandon or not learn but we are asking to be reasonable.

Although we have been through one of the toughest years with the pandemic and all the abnormal things that were happening, the year passed. The point is that time flies by and if we don’t make the most out of it or only invest in learning and working, we may miss some beautiful moments and great opportunities either with our families, friends or ourselves. Life is a journey to discover who we are both in the field of work and outside of it, we need to discover our passions, our creative side and what excites us and makes us feel alive, not by duty but for the love we have for it.

Live your life!

Take a break from work and studies from time to time and try different things, you may be surprised by who you are and you may even like something you’ve always hated because simply you didn’t try it. Draw, sing, dance, write, run, go to the gym, bake, cook, laugh or simply have a chat with the family, a friend or a dear one and many other things that you may not know they are there because you simply didn’t look for them. And no matter what you say or how you do to convince yourself that it’s not your thing, we are all humans and we all want to have fun and feel excited. And since you care a lot about working and learning, actually finding a passion in living helps with that, don’t tell me that sitting for hours in the same chair facing the same computer each day is more productive than taking some breaks that spark joy in you, and come back to your work more joyful and ready to give more efforts powered by the excitement you feel.

To finish the article and put it in simple ways:

  • L: live, love, laugh and learn.
  • I: Innovate and Inspire.
  • V: Volunteer to find yourself and give it time.
  • E: Explore yourself and surroundings.

I hope that while reading the article you got a small motivation to LIVE, even if it is just a small spark that will push you to find your passion in living and find time for yourself. Make sure to take care of it and nurture it for it will become a fundamental part of your life.
