WTVS. We Shared This Week: #14

We share a pretty serious amount of stuff with each other on a weekly basis. Stuff we like, stuff that inspires us, stuff that makes us laugh, stuff we wish we made, stuff we should read, stuff we should listen to, stuff we should watch…STUFF.

This weekly post rounds up all the stuff we’ve shared with each other over the last seven days and gives it to you because, well, it’s always nice to spread the wealth. WTVS it is.

The Chill

Why we shared it:

We love this video, which was art directed by Loris Alessandria. The sound is musical and ambient/natural at the same time and really flows with the animation perfectly.

The whole working-from-home thing — Apple

Why we shared it:

Apple nails it again with this funny, smart, and relatable story. As a follow-up to their video The Underdogs, this perfectly captures what it’s like to work from home with a team. On top of that, Apple does a perfect job of integrating their products into the story (and sound) without it being too obvious. This is a wonderful way to sell products through storytelling.

To Be More Creative, Schedule Your Breaks

Why we shared it:

Oftentimes, when trying to come up with a creative idea, we’ll set a time for creative brainstorming and pray that we get something good. This article makes the case for not only scheduling a brainstorm but scheduling a break from the brainstorm and then coming back to it later. We haven’t actually tried doing this but it feels very similar to needing to “sleep on it” before making a decision. We’ll give it a shot — why not?

The Perfect Conditions for a Great Idea

Why we shared it:

This article breaks down the difference between an idle mind and a lazy mind, and how having an active but idle mindset can often help you come to a great idea. This re-affirms Shelby’s way of working, which often includes staring off into the distance while writing. While it might be confusing to people on the outside, staring off and letting your mind wander is actually helpful. Checkmate!

Don’t Work on Vacation. Seriously.

Why we shared it:

We need to be better at this. That’s all there is to it.

What’s love got to do with advertising?

Why we shared it:

In a world where marketing is often measured by clicks and deals, this article re-affirms what us marketers already know. Building a brand sets you up for sustainable growth in the long run. Although this is specifically focused on advertising, brand affinity and love is relevant in all spaces of marketing. It may not be easily measurable but its impact is huge.

Fight! — By Marc and Emma

Why we shared it:

We love this unique and funny stop motion trailer for the National Animation Festival in France. It’s short but captivating and had us laughing and clicking “replay” over and over again.

Storytelling is great, but is it enough?

Why we shared it:

If you work in marketing but haven’t talked about storytelling do you really work in marketing? This piece highlights why a good story is great but it’s the personality of the writing that takes it to the next level. Although it can be hard to nail down a personality, especially in B2B marketing, when you nail it people notice.

Looks Like You Need to Let It Out

Why we shared it:

We just think this is funny, creative, and highly relevant. We need to let it out and wouldn’t mind doing so in Iceland. Great, out of the box, work!
