Let us share with you some insights about who we are and what motivated us to become a member.
Tell us about your organization.
Allianz X is the digital investments arm of the Allianz Group. We specialize in investing in digital frontrunners within ecosystems relevant to insurance and asset management. Our objectives are to generate financial return and facilitate collaborative partnerships between Allianz and the wider digital ecosystem, particularly in insurtech, fintech, and related fields.
By capitalizing on synergies between Allianz X’s portfolio companies and Allianz entities, we actively foster the development of new business models, products, and services. Our ultimate aim is to drive the digital transformation of the Allianz Group and shape the future of financial services. As an active investor, we provide support to mature digital growth companies, enabling them to take bold leaps and reach their full potential.
To date, we have nurtured 11 Unicorns within our portfolio, from a total of 41 direct investments and over 10 exits. In 2022, Allianz X led the two largest insurtech funding rounds in the United States. Our team comprises 37 colleagues from 18 different nationalities, collectively speaking 12 different languages. With investments spanning North America, Europe, Africa, and Asia, we are proud to have companies like CLARK, Pie Insurance, Coalition, and WeLab as part of our portfolio.
What is your approach to diversity?
As part of the Allianz Group, we are dedicated to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace. We firmly believe in taking action and spreading the message of diversity in all aspects of our operations.
The richness of global backgrounds in our team reflects our values. However, we recognize that gender diversity remains a challenge in the finance sector. Therefore, we actively support initiatives like WVC:E, which not only allow us to discuss the issue but also take concrete steps to address it.
In addition, our CFO, Catherine Dietrich, serves as a coach in Allianz’s internal #SheLeads initiative. This program provides female executives with comprehensive support, equipping them with the necessary tools, skills, and confidence to excel in leadership roles and advance their careers. We also encourage networking opportunities such as The We Network, where our colleagues can connect with other talented women at Allianz.
What motivated you to join WVC:E as a member?
Our motivation to sponsor WVC:E stems from our desire to enhance gender diversity within the finance sector. We are committed to encouraging and supporting more women to thrive in this industry. We view the WVC:E network as an exceptional platform that aligns with our objectives. By participating in the conference, we aim to connect with fellow attendees, contributors, and speakers, fostering valuable exchanges of ideas and experiences. Furthermore, we aspire to host side events that strengthen our network with other investors, founders, LPs, GPs, and more. Ultimately, we strive to be an active and contributing part of this thriving community.
