What is FOSSASIA Summit 2022?

FOSSASIA is an organization developing open-source software applications and Open Hardware together with global communities from its base in Asia. FOSSASIA Summit is a unique event with a broad range of open technology topics. Women Who Code Seoul Chapter participated in the Summit in 2022 as a community partner, and we would like to share the preparation process, content, and self-evaluation of this experience.

Preparation

In early March, FOSSASIA offered us to participate in the event. As a community partner, we were invited to fill out an online promotional page, prepared a five-minute presentation session, and open an exhibitor video room.

In the 5-minute session, Nayeon Shin, Women Who Code Python’s Track Lead presented as a representative of our community and introduced WWCS. Nayeon briefly shared our mission, vision, values, goals, and recent activities to attract more people’s attention and participation.

Self-Evaluation

After the event, WWCS leaders gathered together to reflect on and review our activity. We shared what we liked and what we wanted to do more and improve. This would help us to better plan and manage the next events.

  • Although FOSSASIA Summit was the first time for the newly onboarded organizers to participate in an event through Women Who Code, the collaboration between the existing and new members was smooth.
  • While preparing for the event, we shared various ideas and every member participated proactively and happily.
  • Everyone participated with passion despite the language barrier.
  • The number of followers has has significantly increased since the event.

There are some aspects we think could be improved, but we believe that we can do better for the next event with systematic effort.
