Is Mental Health Just A Fad?

Accidental inventions happened. New Unicorns came into being. And our lives were no longer the same.

We sent messages, shared posts, updated statuses, posted stories, and answered questions, sometimes without knowing the answers. We still do. And we will continue to do.

By putting our thoughts forward, we make sure that we are somehow contributing to whatever challenges that came our way, like the silent ‘mental health’ movement on social networks. The only difference is that it didn’t stop echoing. We keep raising our voices and hearing phrases about staying positive and mastering the subtle art of not giving a f*ck. But how authentic is it? Or is it just a fad like #icebucketchallenge?

While only a minority some claim it as some long-living fad, it feels somehow right. And the bitter truth is, most of us are repeatedly doing it for promotions and mere likes or social acceptance and fame.

We cannot always express our thoughts on mental health just like we throw a film review without being a film critique or enthusiast. To talk about mental health, we got to understand and experience different happenings ourselves on first hand. It is crucial to realize that only a fashion blogger can talk about fashion, or a professional photographer can talk about photography. And mental health is no way different from it. Only a therapist or a medical professional or just someone who has gone through various shades of traumas can paint us the actual picture. Well, as with all scenarios, it comes with an exception for people who empathize and show up themselves in someone else’s shoes.

The chaos today is well-structured that we tend to behave like someone who is incredibly adept at all these infinitely complex topics that we casually talk about on these online community platforms. But deep down, most of us are clueless. While some people are trying to get up their dirt road, the rest are trying to channel their focus. While we are figuring out our questions, here we are, spreading solutions to someone else’s as if we hold a Ph.D. in handling our mind and heart.

We cannot deny the fact that social media is jacked up with communities. Be it entrepreneurs, bloggers, and so on. But how many of you have come across a community of mental professionals or therapists? Maybe a few or almost none at all. And that’s exactly where the problem lies.

Making sure that the right people talk about relevant topics has always been the best way of creating a staggering yet positive impact that stands the test of time. Somehow that impact is missing and is needed now more than ever. That guidance is wanted this moment and for all the moments to come. We require people who can tell us what exactly needs to be done with remedies and facts and not the kinds that sugarcoat with their cool phrases and captions.
