Hello! I’m Wynn. Welcome to the small corner of the universe I call WynnsWorld.

I created the handle Wynnsworld in December 2008 when I launched my Twitter (I refuse to call it X) account. To place that in time, this was two months after Jack Dorsey stepped down as CEO and on the front edge of Twitter’s explosive growth the next year.

The name is an obvious take-off from Wayne’s World, Mike Myers’ comic creation in which he as Wayne (Campbell) and Dana Carvey as Garth (Algar) host a local cable access TV show. The sketch first appeared on Saturday Night Live on February 18, 1989 (which I watched), with a movie following in 1992.

Yes, I am done dating myself. For now.

I liked that the reference would be recognizable as well as the irony considering my background. I soon painted a picture of a fanciful world where Voltaire’s Dr. Pangloss would feel comfortable. Wynnsworld became the perfect place where everything worked exactly as I thought it should. Which is pretty much the opposite of how the world actually does.

For the record, the opening of the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas in April 28, 2005 wasn’t a conscious factor. But it did lead to a joke about me seeking adoption to become Wynn Wynn without receiving a reply…

My Wynnsworld (read “online”) voice took on a different flavor and a much sharper edge in 2016 with the rise of MAGA and during Trump 1.0. The isolation of COVID along with my personal situation made it worse. I showed both the best and worst of me during this time. It’s the cost of being a truthteller and wearing my heart on my sleeve.

Now we’re firmly in the post-pandemic Aftertimes. The world — and we — have changed in ways we collectively still don’t understand. I personally have officially moved from the life stage of midlife to elderhood, having learned and healed and grown along the way. I’m reckoning with a body in which the warranties on my joints seem to all be running out at the same time, and a late-life ADHD diagnosis.

At the same time, I’ve fully embraced who I am. I’ve accumulated and synthesized a lifetime of experiences into, dare I say it, wisdom. And I continue to evolve.

So today, against the ironic backdrop of Martin Luther King Jr. Day and the official start of Trump 2.0, I’m launching WynnsWorld or The World According to Wynn. Unlike my brain, I promise this world is more ordered. I won’t impulsively jump from topic to topic without notice. But I will cover a fair amount of ground, from the personal to the professional.

  • Discussions of the challenges of adapting to life in the Aftertimes and the Times of Trump.
  • Lessons learned on my life journeys from Pastor’s Kid to practicing Jew; through parenting sons and two divorces; from one set of personal identities to another.
  • Views into the experience of managing an aging body and adult ADHD.
  • Explorations of sexuality, relationships, and alternative lifestyles.
  • Tips on improving interpersonal communication and relationships
  • Strategies for becoming more proficient in using communication to create social change.

There will inevitably be some other current affairs, sports and entertainment mixed in.

My main goal here is to share my knowledge, thoughts and observations so others can learn from my experiences, and so people like me know there are others out there like them.

In short, I’ve lived some life, have some stories to tell and some lessons to share.

Welcome to WynnsWorld.
