When first introduced, content curation was viewed as a shortcut to creating new content to put up on a site. In an era when Keyword was King, it wasn’t about quality as much as it was about quantity, and it showed.

Now, however, content curation has evolved into an art form that sparks conversations and allows you to direct that conversation into your specific arena of expertise, harnessing the engagement and lead potential that goes with it.

Audiences now are looking for trusted sources, some place they can turn to time and time again and know they are going to get information they can use. Content curation allows you to take the best of the information available, identify new information or a new trend, and share that with your audience.

The power of that? When your audience knows that they can trust you to have the latest and greatest, they tune out those who are competing for their attention, choosing to stick with you. Monopolizing their attention like that in like an unlimited pipeline of possibilities.

Another thing that content curation does is help you take an idea and put a new spin on it. You can weed out what everyone else is saying and focus on what sets you apart on that topic, product, service or solution. That new viewpoint can start a conversation, and engagement with your audience is what keeps them coming back.

Finally, content curation allows you to identify what subjects and topics appeal to your target audience. And when you know what they like, you can deliver it to them, made to order. The key is to identify what you can offer that adds value to the conversation that is already ongoing. When you can find something new to say on a favorite topic that adds into being a trusted resource. Plus, you can build a relationship back the other way too. If a post inspires you(like this one), reach out to the author, ask for an interview, link to their work. That builds your network in a completely different direction.

Content curation is one of the big topics for 2017 as its success continues to grow, and that’s a conversation worth joining.
