  • Applicant typically must possess trade or degree/tertiary qualifications relevant to their field of employment and demonstrate appropriate work experience (in excess of five years in their particular area of expertise).
  • Applicants must possess the ability to complete a full pre-employment/visa medical and produce a clear criminal/police history check from their Country of Origin.
  • Applicants are required to prove that they are proficient in English by a Band 4 Score on an IELTS Certificate, certificate from a recognized English Language Instruction Institution or completion of at least five (5) years secondary education at a school that taught in English or three (3) years at a tertiary institution.
  • Applicants must possess the ability to register with the appropriate PNG Professional Body in Papua New Guinea relevant to their craft. This may require comprehensive details of work history, qualifications and transcripts, work samples, recent professional development activity and professional references.

Candidate shall apply for WORK-PERMIT, VISA and IEPNG (Institute of Engineer PNG) according to the following conditions:

  • No work permits will be granted to a non-citizen under the age of 22. This is because it is assumed that non-citizens of this age are not suitably qualified, skilled or experienced enough to provide training or learning opportunities to their PNG counterparts.
  • As a general rule, non-citizen employees should possess degree or other tertiary qualifications relevant to their field of employment and demonstrate appropriate work experience (at least three (3) to five (5) years) in order to qualify for a work permit.
  • There is no upper age limit to the granting of a work permit, however a non-citizen who is above the age of 65 years may have to provide a suitable medical clearance before they can be granted a work permit.
  • Applicants are required to prove that they are proficient in English before they can be granted a work permit. English language proficiency can be proven by a Band 4 Score on an IELTS Certificate, certificate from a recognised English Language Instruction Institution, completion of at least five (5) years secondary education at a school that taught in English, three (3) year tertiary qualifications that was taught in English or Company “in house” English Language Training and confirmation of English speaking ability may be considered.
  • Applicants must be outside of Papua New Guinea at the time the work permit is granted.
  • It is necessary for non-citizen Engineers (of all disciplines) to register with the appropriate PNG Professional Body in Papua New Guinea being the Institute of Engineers PNG Inc or IEPNG. Applicants are required to provide comprehensive details of their previous engineering work history, qualifications and transcripts, work samples, recent professional development activity and professional references.
