All you need to know about Traveling in COVID Pandemic

With travel restrictions lifting, but social distancing is still recommended. It’s no surprise that 97% of summer trips are road trips. That’s up from an average of 87% over the last five years. Road trips allow travelers to make their own schedule and customize stops based on comfort level and interests. For families, especially those with small children, it is an easy and less expensive way to travel.

Many Americans are still unsure what a vacation is supposed to look like in 2020.

Automobile Association of America (AAA) comes out with a 2020 summer travel forecast covering from period of 1st July through 30th September.

What about Numbers?

According to AAA, Americans will take over 700 million trips in July, August and September, which is 120 million fewer trips than in 2019.

The overall 14.6% decline in travel is primarily because of reduced air travel, according to AAA. “The forecasted air travel volume of 15.1 million will be 74% less as compared to last year’s air travel volume levels.”

As to other modes of mass transportation, the AAA forecast projects bus, rail and cruise ship travel “will see a decrease similar to air travel, as the 9.3 million expected travel volume is down by 86% when compared against the level seen in 2019.”

Before You Go:

  • No matter how a traveler gets to their final destination, AAA recommends considering these points before you go:
  • Check the CDC’s Covid-19 data tracker, municipal and state health departments and local news for updates on coronavirus cases and continue to do so while on the road.
  • Visit AAA’s Covid-19 Travel Restrictions Map at AAA.com for the latest state and local travel restrictions.
  • Prepare face coverings, gloves and cleaning supplies — like disinfecting wipes, hand sanitizer — and a thermometer.
  • Don’t forget to take all necessary travel documentation, including health insurance cards.

Keep these things in mind if you’re still hesitating and have fears leading you to cancel your vacation:

  • Be reasonable: The truth is that no one knows how this pandemic will play out. If your trip is far into the future, it’s best to stay calm and keep an eye on the situation. Hopefully, by the time your vacation rolls around, the coronavirus will be a distant memory.
  • Be patient: The cruise lines, airlines, hotels, and consumer advocates are plowing through tons of requests every day. You’ll need to have some patience in order toget your answer.
  • Be aware: Even if you’ve decided to cancel your vacation, in most cases, there is no value in canceling weeks or months beforehand. Remember, if your cruise, flight, or tour is eventually canceled, your travel provider owes you a full refund. So often, it’s best to wait it out and see if your provider cancels.
