A regular re-cap from XOCIETY’s founder OldGinger

Hello Pioneers of XOCIETY!

This is Jeffry (OldGinger), founder and Lead Director of XOCIETY.

July has seen numerous significant events, such as our Frontier Avatar NFT minting, holder testing, and more. Each one was a success and everyone on the XOCIETY team felt excited and motivated. Our achievements wouldn’t have been possible without the unwavering support and active participation of our community.

Starting this month, we’ll be publishing developer notes regularly to let you know more about the development progress. So, without further ado, let’s dive right in!

1. Frontier Avatar NFT Mint

1.1 Notable Records

We successfully held our first Frontier Avatar mint event on July 10th. First, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who joined the process!

  • Over 3,000 people participated in the minting competition, and a total of 999 avatars were generated.
  • There was a delay during the Mint-List phase due to unforseen website downtime.
  • Nonetheless, we managed to restore operations within 3 hours, and the minting of all remaining avatars was completed in just 56 seconds.

In such situations, we usually conduct a postmortem analysis to avoid similar problems in the future, and the root cause we identified was as follows:

  • During the mint phase, the 18th wallet was observed to have an unusual address.
  • The wallet’s verification was not successful, which subsequently led to a problem.

Our dev team is used to handling large amounts of traffic on Web 2, so it was hard for them to understand that the server problem was caused by a single MintList participant data.

The core issue, once again, rested in the Web3 technology stack — a field that XOCIETY’s team is growing in confidence and ability. Our engineers especially are quickly adapting to Web3.

1.2 Behind the scenes of our first mint.

There was a lot of discussion within the team about pricing. In particular, the team spent a long time discussing our first minting event.

Given the expense associated with producing 3D graphical assets and the benefits that NFT holders would receive within the XOCIETY universe, at the time it was logical to move forward with a paid mint.

However, we decided to keep the first mint event free. Although we used the familiar phrase “Free Minting”, the team doesn’t consider Frontier NFT Avatars to have been free for anyone.

Why? Because community members have spent their hard-earned NTx to participate in the minting. NTx represents the hope and sweat of the community, who have given us constant encouragement and support since the project was at its weakest and most unknown point.

In short, “There is no free lunch.”

By releasing it as a free mint, we were able to gain community support that was more valuable than anything else, which is why the team is so proud of the success of the mint.

1.3 Utility

Holders of Frontier Avatar NFT are granted a variety of benefits. In simple terms, think of it as having the utility equivalent of a permanent premium account or Battle Pass.

And the benefit isn’t just for the holder, it’s also for the people they play with.

In other words, holders will be able to be an influencer in XOCIETY forming a group with Pioneers to go on great adventures. We’ll show you how it works when playing in the same group with other users in the future, so stay tuned!

1.4 A glimpse of future sales

Don’t be disappointed even if you were on the mint list but didn’t mint your avatars this time around!

We are planning to distribute up to 10K Frontier Avatar NFTs. In addition to the Avatars, we will be releasing a diverse range of NFT items prior to the official launch of XOCIETY in the next few months. So, we can make the game more colorful and vibrant while having more room to invite new users.

Also, we are working on a plan to reward those who missed out on the opportunity. Who knows, perhaps there are more stunning avatars just waiting to be minted by someone!

2. NFT Holder Test

On July 28–30, XOCIETY held its first public testing session.

When I started the XOCIETY project, my request to the development team was quite simple.

‘We have to show quickly that the NFTs issued can be used in the real world.’

The portion of NFT owners who participate in playtesting will have a significant impact on the future direction of XOCIETY’s services. The team will continue to find a better way to create a player-centric ecosystem.

Our NFT holders and numerous players who accessed using invitation codes participated in the first test, as well as selected VIPs had a great time. Thank you to everyone who shared their experience and feedback on social media.

While it was a test build, we sincerely appreciate your support once again.

In PVP (Player Vs. Player) and PVE (Player Vs. Environment) modes, we got the following records.

  • On the first day, a player scored 1,162 kills and experienced 595 deaths in total.
  • Ben Mauro’s Creature ‘Thor’ was taken down 44 times, with the fastest team taking down the boss in 13 minutes.
  • A total of 630,000 NTx and 10 Avatar NFTs were won/assigned to the participants.

To be honest, we didn’t expect you to play this hard! We’ve only scratched the surface of what we have. I’m personally so excited for the future.

2.1 Customization

For those who don’t have an avatar NFT, we offered a decent avatar customization system.

During the test, players were able to create in-game avatars without NFTs and customize them to their preferences!

Stylish User Customization

Of course, they’re a little less cool than the Frontier Avatar NFTs. However, we are dreaming of a long-term goal to achieve “interoperability” through avatar customization in XOCIETY.

NFT-exclusive designs such as angel wings and clown faces are not customizable.

Although we can’t reveal it now, we are building some fun stuff with some of the best fashion NFT projects out there!

Basically, we’re on our way to “All UR NFTs BECOME RLITY.” It was the catchphrase from the video we released a year ago when we first announced the XOCIETY project to the world.

2.2 CAELUM

Several areas of CAELUM 0064 and its Cocoon Room, were revealed in the holder test.

These underground facilities are shelters where humans hibernated 50,000 years ago, and they’re built all over the world. Not all CAELUMS have survived safely though…

All players can gather in the plaza area of CAELUM. It’s the place where they can find other Pioneers to go on a journey with, or trade items without the guards noticing.

Oh, if you get caught trading black-market items? You better flee for your life!

2.3 PVP / PVE

The demo session allowed players to test out the most important features of all: The guns and knives. Unfortunately, there’s no play scenario in XOCIETY where every player gets a reward.

Yet, players have been engaged in intense PVE/PVP competition with each other to see who can claim the rewards. Don’t worry if you’re not a good shooter, it was just a test to see how much firepower the NDUS-built weapons have.

There are many ways to be the strongest in XOCIETY. You can be either a reliable shield for your team or an angel healing an injured friend.

What’s important in every shooter game is finding good and trustworthy companions with you on your adventure.

2.4 Future Plans

XOCIETY will showcase the convergence of AAA shooter games and blockchain technology to both Web2 and Web3 gamers globally. And we will fulfill this promise by conducting regular public tests with our community.

Team NDUS wants to integrate valuable player feedback into the game prior to the Early Access launch!
