Overview

There’s a lot of confusion in the daily fantasy space. Users are constantly questioning whether daily fantasy is legal, whether it’s a form of gambling, and whether it’s allowed in their country. To avoid all confusion and help users focus on what they truly care about — competing in daily fantasy contests — we created a no-fuss, completely legal, daily fantasy esports website for esports fans.

TL;DR — XP Fantasy is a freemium subscription daily fantasy esports site — we are NOT an online gambling site.

Some background

For a quick refresher on what exactly fantasy sports are, check out paragraph 2 of Justin’s blog post on the subject.

Daily fantasy sports are essentially fantasy sports but accelerated. Whereas season-long fantasy sports have you competing against others with, more or less, the same roster you drafted on day one of the season; daily fantasy lets you draft a new roster every. single. time. you enter a new contest. Daily fantasy sports reward true sports fans — the ones who keep up with all the latest news and know how to skillfully respond to last minute team changes (and drama).

Current state of the industry

Right now, the daily fantasy esports space has a negative stigma associated with it. Many consider it to be a form of online gambling and, as a result, it isn’t allowed in several U.S. states and countries worldwide. Although daily fantasy sites argue that their games test a player’s skill and therefore, are not games of chance (i.e., shouldn’t be considered gambling), many governments think otherwise.

This means that many users who are interested in daily fantasy cannot (legally) participate in any competitions.

We decided to change that.

You need to change your business model if there are people in this world who want what you’re offering but can’t access it.

In order to ensure our site was (a) scalable (so that it reached as many users worldwide) and therefore, was (b) legal, we decided to use a subscription-based pricing model. This way, instead of placing bets on each game they enter, users can pay a monthly subscription fee and have access to all contests hosted on our site. This provides an affordable and legal way for users to play daily fantasy — while still giving them the opportunity to win prizes.

And, although we’re pretty proud of our subscription-based model (since it means more people now have access to daily fantasy!), here are some other unique features we’d like to point out:

  1. Our competitors focus on cash prizes whereas our users have the chance to win esports specific prizes (i.e. gaming keyboard, professional team merchandise, etc.)
  2. Our community discord is made up of amazing esports fans (that are helping us build the product they want to use!)
  3. We are constantly iterating. We’re brand new (our official launch is in a couple of weeks!) which means that we are open to change. Bettering ourselves is part of our core DNA — we want what’s best for our users so tell us, what do you want more of?
