At Xperiel, we believe in the power of ecosystems. Ecosystems allow cutting-edge companies to band together and create greater, more powerful networks of products than could ever be created in siloed environments. By working together to keep augmented reality platforms open, transparent and interoperable, we can extend responsible AR uses to consumers of all kinds while at the same time working to prevent irresponsible or harmful uses of this powerful technology. Built on the standards of open source software, open data, open R&D and respect for the privacy and dignity of every individual affected by this technology, the Open AR Cloud Foundation is a necessary and vital initiative in the AR space, and we are proud to join as a founding partner.

The promise of this foundation is spelled out in its name. An open augmented reality cloud ecosystem will enable individuals to have a voice regarding the way their personal data is shared and how others use their data, while giving individual developers and startups the tools they need to “paint the physical world with data” and share virtual experiences with the world. As strong supporters of the Open AR Cloud initiative, we plan to contribute to guarding individual privacy rights as we work with the other members to expand responsible technology development through our Xperiel Real World Web (RWW) platform.

We’re honored to be working on the Open AR Cloud with Jan-Erik Vinje and Ori Inbar, who are some of the key visionaries behind this project. They brought together a key group of AR influencers and innovators who shared a dream of a new wave of technology with the power to capture and combine “real” physical environments with digital content that would forever change the way people see and interact with the world and each other. By crowdsourcing the resources of the AR community, developers are able to do incredible things to advance AR technology applications in the real world. Instead of consuming content only mediated through the ‘internet of screens,’ the Open AR Cloud makes the entire physical world digitally interactive — now anyone can consume and place digital content into physical places. Here at Xperiel, we’re working on enhancing this technology every day as we expand the Real World Web and our real world applications for augmented reality, such as our AR activations with the Sacramento Kings and New York Jets.

Come join the Open AR Cloud as we explore, create and develop new technology that blurs the line between real and virtual experiences. Please join us as a member, a contributor to a working group, partner organization or a sponsor of projects, activities and events.

The Open AR Cloud Organization is being formally unveiled at the Augmented World Expo EU in Munich, Gemany, October 18 and 19, 2018.
