When I founded XperientialAI, I wanted to capture the essence of experiential learning combined with the transformative potential of artificial intelligence. The name “XperientialAI” perfectly reflects this vision, emphasizing a hands-on, immersive approach to leveraging AI for high-impact learning.
AI challenges us to ensure we remain relevant and learn to leverage AI to enhance our impact. Navigating those challenges means finding effective ways to harness collective intelligence and discover our innate creativity. This is where my “Prompt-Think-Refine-Publish” (PTRP) method comes into play — it’s a relatable approach to AI collaboration that enhances creativity, depth of thought, and the quality of our work. The PTRP method is like a game that challenges you to think creatively, explore new ideas, and push the boundaries of what’s possible. It’s important to note that while AI is a critical component in the PTRP method, it is not the sole driver of creativity. PTRP integrates the strengths of human intelligence and AI, creating a synergy that amplifies both to enable your Agency.
Origins of PTRP
The concept of PTRP emerged from a series of highly productive and inspiring collaborations I’ve had using AI tools since late 2022. These collaborations have allowed me to think more deeply and creatively than ever before despite my decades of experience in various fields. The insights and clarity gained through these interactions led me to recognize a pattern—a cycle of prompting, deep thinking, iterative refinement, and final publication. This pattern became the foundation for the PTRP method.
The PTRP method is like a tool that helps you craft your ideas, refining and polishing them so they shine.
The Phases of Prompt-Think-Refine-Publish©
The PTRP method consists of four distinct but interlinked phases: Prompt, Think, Refine, and Publish. Each phase plays a critical role in the creative process, ensuring that ideas are explored, refined, and brought to life in their best possible form. The PTRP method is a journey: the Prompt phase is your starting point, the Think and Refine phases are iterating to get closer to your destination, and the Publish phase is reaching your destination.
1. Prompt: The process begins with a question, idea, or challenge that sets the stage for exploration. While not necessarily context-rich, the initial Prompt is a catalyst for curiosity and exploration. It may derive from an article that serves as initial inspiration or an outline of an idea still taking shape and requiring further development. This flexibility allows for a broad range of starting points, fostering an open and exploratory mindset.
2. Think: Once prompted, the next phase involves deep, critical thinking. This is where the magic happens. Engaging with the Prompt, we explore various angles, generate many ideas, and engage in inherently iterative thinking, encouraging continuous questioning and exploration. New insights are uncovered in this space, and creative connections are made.
3. Refine: The Think phase naturally flows into Refine. Here, the raw ideas generated are honed and polished. This involves clarifying concepts, addressing ambiguities, and distilling the core message. The iterative nature of this phase is crucial — each refinement brings the ideas closer to their final, polished form. It’s a continuous improvement process, ensuring that every aspect of the output is well-considered and optimized.
The Think and Refine phases are an iterative cycle of mutual feedback and a think-more loop. The PTRP method is a dance between humans and AI, where each step builds upon the previous one, creating a harmonious and iterative cycle of creativity.
4. Publish: Finally, the Publish phase completes the journey. This is where the refined ideas are compiled into a cohesive and impactful output, whether it’s an article, a presentation, or a creative project. The focus is on clarity and coherence, ensuring that the final product communicates the ideas effectively and resonates with the intended audience. My approach in this phase is to parse the AI’s text through a service like Grammarly (I use Grammarly Pro) because you likely already know that AI’s grammar is average to good, rarely excellent.
The Iterative Power of Think and Refine
Often, we don’t have the luxury of iterating because it’s time-consuming. One of the key strengths of the PTRP method is how it leverages AI for the iterative cycle within the Think and Refine phases. Unlike linear processes, PTRP embraces the fluidity and dynamism of creative thought. As new insights emerge, the process loops back, allowing for continuous refinement and deepening of ideas. This iterative nature is particularly valuable in AI collaborations, where feedback loops and adaptive learning are crucial for optimizing outcomes.

For instance, in an AI-assisted project, the ‘Prompt’ phase could involve formulating a question based on the data, the ‘Think’ phase could be about exploring various ways to answer the question, the ‘Refine’ phase could involve refining the chosen answer, and the ‘Publish’ phase could be about presenting the refined answer. This method is not just a tool for generating ideas; it’s a comprehensive approach to developing well-rounded, impactful content.
