Where do your bound witnesses go when they get bridged to an XYO archivist? They get added to an origin chain, which you can find on Explore, the interface for the XYO blockchain diviner.

In this article, we’ll discuss how to locate an origin chain for an XYO bridge. If you have an XYO exclusive hardware bridge, BridgeX, we’ll explore its origin chain. But if you don’t have a BridgeX, we can use the free XYO Network mobile app, available for Android or iOS.

It’s easier than you might think to find the origin chain for your favorite XYO bridge, so let’s dive into the data ocean!

XYO Network Mobile App

If you’re using XYO Network app version 3.0 for Android or iOS, the app acts as a bridge using your phone. You can find the first ten blocks of your origin chain right in the app by opening Proof of Origin Chain from your Device context. To see more, you’ll need to get your app’s public key.

A beta test version of XYO Network app version 3.0 is available on the Play Store for all eligible Android users, or on Test Flight for iOS users.

  1. Open XYO Network app on your phone or tablet.
  2. Near the top of your screen, below Android Device or iOS Device, you’ll see a box that says Address.
  3. Tap the Address box and a notification that says “Copied Public Key” will appear at the bottom of your screen.

Note: If you are using XYO Network app version 2.0, the public key for your app is available by selecting the My Devices icon on the bottom right, selecting your Mobile Device, and then selecting the Copy icon to the right of the public key.

BridgeX

If you’re using BridgeX, you’ll find the bridge’s public key in the BridgeX interface when it’s plugged into a display. However, if you claimed your BridgeX using instruction #5 here, you can simply retrieve the public key from your XYO account.

  1. Visit app.xyo.network and make sure you’re logged in.
  2. Click Devices at the top of the page.
  3. Select your BridgeX from the list of devices.
  4. Click Copy Public Key in the right-side bar.

Explore

Once you have your public key, it’s time to use Explore to view its origin chain.

  1. Visit explore.xyo.network using your favorite web browser.
  2. Enter the query “chain: ” and paste your public key after it. Important: “chain: ” must have a space after the colon.
  3. Press Enter.

Origin Chain

An origin chain is an indexed chain of bound witness blocks that have been bridged to the XYO blockchain which can be traced with one public key.

At the top of the origin chain, you’ll see the public key of the node (in this case your bridge), along with some options.

  • Map View allows you to view the bound witnesses in the origin chain on a map, where coordinate data is available.
  • Social media links allow you to share the origin chain.
  • Create Alias allows you to save this public key to your watchlist.

Each block below it represents an actual block of the origin chain.

  • Each of the two nodes that were party to the bound witness will have its own identicon (auto-generated avatar).
  • To the left or right of each of the identicons is the index number of the block for that public key’s origin chain. The numbers may not be exactly sequential – this is normal, it means the block was bridged by a different bridge.
  • The number in between the two identicons is the RSSI, or received signal strength indicator. This shows the physical proximity of the two parties.
  • Blocks are dated and time-stamped on the right.
  • The map icon allows you to view the coordinate information of the bound witness on a map. This is where the bound witness occurred, if that data is available.
  • The cube icon allows you to view the raw data of the block.

Further Exploration

Now that you know what an origin chain is, how it works, and how to find one, every single node on XYO Network that has produced bound witnesses has an origin chain for you to find. As long as you have a node’s public key, you can learn everything about what it’s been up to on XYO.

If you need more public keys to explore, they’re easy to find.

  1. Visit explore.xyo.network and select Recent Blocks.
  2. Select for the hash of a bound witness of your choice.
  3. Select the shortened public key of either node that was party to the bound witness.
  4. The origin chain for that node will be displayed.

Explore is currently in beta, so new versions will be released. Stay tuned to the XYO Network Medium channel, or sign up for our newsletter, to stay on top of the latest from XYO!
