XYO and DOVU: Rewarding People for Good Mobility Habits

You’re driving home from work. It’s rush hour. Your usual route home, which is one left turn away, is already packed with cars. But you’re probably going to slide into that slow-moving, miserable mass anyway, because that’s the way you always go. You barely even think about it anymore.

But just before you commit to the traffic jam, your phone beeps. There’s an alternative route you can take. If you keep going straight, there will be far fewer cars. It may take a tad longer than the traffic jam to get home, and you’ll end up traversing some unfamiliar streets, but here’s what will happen:

  1. You’ll help ease congestion on your usual route
  2. You’ll reduce your greenhouse gas emissions
  3. You’ll earn a coupon for a bike ride by the beach — a perfect reward to use in the upcoming weekend

DOVU is a blockchain-powered mobility company that wants to reward people for making the right moves on the road. They’re building a mobility ecosystem made up of a wallet, a unified token, and a marketplace to spend the rewards users earn for making better choices when they drive.

XYO is providing the blockchain-backed location data to verify the routes and journeys that deliver the rewards to the users.

This is a partnership unlike any we’ve made before, and we’re extremely thrilled to partner with DOVU on this exciting project. Here’s a message from DOVU’s CEO to the XYO community and beyond:

Here are just a few driving habits that DOVU wants to reward:

  • Taking an alternative route to ease congestion on another route
  • Arriving early at a destination — like an airport
  • Carpooling to a destination instead of taking multiple cars
  • Handing off a parking spot to someone else

For a mobility-based rewards system to work, two things need to happen. Each user must be comfortable sharing the data from their journey, even if that shared info is anonymous. And the journey itself needs to be tracked — impeccably.

GPS spoofing is not just real, it’s mainstream, with thousands of drivers from Uber and Lyft using software to fake where their cars are located. XYO has the blockchain-based data to make certain that this doesn’t happen with DOVU users.

By partnering with DOVU, we’re helping build what may be the first truly transparent mobility rewards system for drivers who care about the environment and their fellow travelers. We look forward to working toward this goal and are proud to call them our newest partner.
