Many a weary traveller
Have I witnessed
Standing guard for centuries
Providing shelter, solace, support.
Landscapes have shifted
Yet troubles of the heart
Remain unchanged.
Heartbreak, mourning, frustration
They sought comfort in my bosom.
Enveloping their warm bodies
I kept quiet vigil, wiping their tears.
Today I am reduced to timber
Lining their walls
With not a second glance from them.
