Nobel Prize winner and Special Obama Science Envoy to U.S. State Department Professor Dan Kammen dazzles and inspires Y-Labs Teen
Y-Labs Ventures’ Teen Business Students motivated by Dan Kammen to create Businesses with Principles and promote Climate Equity, Environmental Justice, and Black Lives Matter.
University of California Berkeley Energy Professor and Nobel Laureate contributor Dan Kammen spoke to Y-Labs teen business accelerator students on July 16, 2020. Kammen spoke about his career as a climate scientist at UC Berkeley, his work as an Environmental Envoy for the U.S. State Department under the Obama administration, and the importance for teens to leverage their passions for greater racial and environmental justice. In his talk, Dan noted the importance of racial justice — citing the #blacklivesmatter movement, as well as the importance for teens to advocate for environmental justice, climate science, and clean energy. In line with his advocacy for environmental justice, Kammen talked to Y-Labs teens about the importance of the Paris Global Climate Accord and China’s apt participation in meeting climate goals and how the U.S is falling short. Finally, Dan urged Y-Labs teens to find and follow their passion — noting the famed teen climate activist Greta Thunberg for her outstanding advocacy and dedication to justice for climate change.
The Nobel Prize Winner encouraged Y-Labs teen entrepreneurs to merge their business acumen to create enterprises that merge business and climate science. Dan talked about his journey to winning the Nobel Prize, the Blue Ocean Initiative, and his work at the RAEL laboratory at UC Berkeley, which contributes to energy rates and policy.
Dan Kammen is a Professor of Energy at UC Berkeley, a Nobel Prize Winner for his work as part of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, and a former Environmental Envoy to Secretary of State John Kerry. Kammen is the founding director at REAL — the Renewable and Appropriate Energy Laboratory at UC Berkeley.
Y-Labs Co-Founder, Christina Zhu-Weaver hosted the event on Zoom.
