One google account is rarely sufficient. You need one for personal use, one for finances and maybe some other group accounts. In such a case, using add account feature of google is a real mess. People who have been there know what I am talking about. You log in from one account and the moment you open a new tab and surf to some link. You find you are already on your default account. Can’t change default account all the time. Can you?

The logic behind ‘adding accounts’ feature on Google Chrome is you have multiple accounts and you will use one at any given time. The logic behind ‘adding person’ on Chrome is to share your browser with other people. We just need this. You be all the different persons you wanna be! So, what we are looking for is a similar feature on Firefox. Well, Chrome let’s you add multiple persons and Firefox gives you Profiles. This is the feature we need. :)

Instructions

For Ubuntu 16.04 LTS

Step 1: Close all Firefox sessions that are currently open.

Step 2: Hit Ctrl+Alt+T to open terminal

Step 3: Enter this command to open profile manager for firefox.

firefox -P

Step 4: Add a new profile and give a identifiable name for ease.

Step 5: You can add multiple profiles and sign in with one account in each and that saves all your settings separately.

Step 6: To configure settings while using firefox. Hit Ctrl+L and type

about:profiles
Configuring when Firefox is open

Hallelujah! There you go. Separate accounts on separate profiles in Firefox. No more frustration of using flickery Google Chrome on Linux.
