WAKE UP

Young People Are Leading The Fight Against Climate Change. They Urge Us All to Join Them!

Many of us have seen and felt the chaos of our government right here in the United States these past few years, and with all the turmoil and new ‘awfulness’ that crops up in our news reports every single day, we are hard pressed to note that OUR disarray effects other nations as well. It seems that chaotic actions have become a way of life all over the globe!

While nuclear war and climate change are the obvious top-level threats to our world, because climate change manifests its damaging symptoms slowly, some of us, including those in our government, don’t see how it is driving inequalities and and life threatening stressors. Chaotic actions within our government tend to deflect from our most urgent priorities.

Many of us recognize that climate change and inequality are the urgent issues of our time, and legislators should be focusing on them, yet divisiveness and backward thinking impede our ability to move forward. It is as if we are sleep walking into the quick sand of human error that could even mean human extinction if we don’t wake up!

We see the global risks that are associated with failure to mitigate climate change incuding extreme weather events, water crises, food crisis, and natural disasters. We read that fire and floods have greatly increased. We know that this year heat temperatures have been higher than in the past and are causing heat waves to become more common. We also know that even in America children are at risk of hunger, that water has become harder to find, and in many cases is polluted — as is our air.

Young people have been leading the way for us to do what needs to be done to mitigate even more destruction from climate change. We cannot stop what has already happened, but we can slow down and even halt future life threatening events from climate change if we do what needs to be done. We can also take steps to define what will make it easier for human and other animals to live with the effects of climate change that we did not stop soon enough.

Our young people are the ones who will be the most affected by our resistance, including govenmental resistance, to doing what needs to be done. They are urging us all to stand up to our governments and nay sayers to “SAVE OUR PLANET.”

I am honored to have joined them.
