All aboard the Amphitrite! Luxury yacht with illustrious history goes on sale
What do JK Rowling and Johnny Depp have in common? Apart from a shared interest in the fantasy genre, the two have been owners of a prestigious luxury yacht. Now on sale for a cool £15 million, the Amphitrite — which has its own fair share of magical charm — is awaiting its next buyer.
Named after the sea-goddess wife of Poseidon, the yacht was built in 2001, and has had a pretty star-studded list of buyers so far. So what makes it so special?
Pirates of the Mediterranean
Having been refurbished at a reported cost of £5 million back in 2009 by Depp and former wife Vanessa Paradis, the craft carries an unmistakably bohemian aesthetic. A mixture of plush velvet interiors and modern fittings make it more than a cut above the decaying decks and gangways Captain Jack Sparrow would be used to.
The yacht boasts a total of five bedrooms, along with spacious dining, entertaining and relaxation rooms. Guests can also enjoy a state-of-the-art sound system, games consoles, and modernist works of art. And, at 156ft long, the Amphitrite is stylish without being ostentatious — Just like Depp’s fashion sense.
Fantasy fulfilled
After chartering the yacht while on holiday with her husband, Harry Potter author JK Rowling immediately fell in love with the magical vessel. So spellbound was she with the Amphitrite’s charms that she succumbed to its allure, to the tune of £22 million.
It now seems Rowling has had second thoughts about owning the yacht, and is willing to offload it for a pretty heavily reduced £15 million. With no comment as yet from the Rowling camp as to why she is letting go of such a gem, the opportunity to own such a prestigious craft is surely one that will interest both serious potential buyers and those that dare to dream.
Oh, and for anyone still upset about the break up of Brangelina, the Hollywood couple spent a happy holiday together onboard the yacht in the summer of 2010. A chance to relive the good times, if any other incentive were needed.
