Who’s who, among players born on the second most populated country in the MLB? We’ll soon find out

Albert Pujols, Designated Hitter for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

If you asked an average baseball fan who is the best Dominican player today, who would they say? Fernando Tatis Jr? Well, after the mega contract he just received, the answer would show that he is the Dominican player with the best future projection. But not necessarily the best Dominican player. Albert Pujols? The best race would be the answer, but it is obvious that “The Machine” is not even a shadow of what it once was.

So how can we determine the best Dominican player today? For this we have to consider some determining factors:

1. What production has such a player had in the last 3 years?
2. What is your projection for 2021 itself?
3. Is he a consistent star player?
4. Have you been doing it for several years?

Using modern metrics (Wins Above Replacement — WAR, OPS +, ERA +), the results in awards (MVP, CY Young, GG and SS), the opinion of their contemporaries and the writers who follow the pastime, we will be able to identify the 15 Dominicans most valuable players in the major leagues by 2021. Being able to get 15 is an achievement for any nationality, and given the large number of active Dominican players (not counting 2021 rookies, there are potentially about 200) among players born in the Dominican Republic. , and those who have dual nationality such as Manny Machado.

We will do this analysis in three additional parts. Tomorrow, Wednesday, the Dominicans will appear from 15 to 11, on Thursday they will appear from 10 to 6, and Friday will conclude with the best 5 Dominicans for 2021. Will your favorite player be there? We’ll see.
