What is YAP DAO?

YAP DAO is a community that will provide communication and marketing support to the DeFi world.

Practically, it is a marketplace for non-technical people to get work in a technical field.

The Story Behind

YAP Global Ltd was started with a passion for crypto and a mission to make emerging technology easy to understand.

It was formed in the bear market of early 2018 and in just over three years, it grew to be the PR agency which emphasizes understanding crypto and DeFi in order to to support DAOs with PR.

Amidst cementing YAP Global Ltd as the leading PR agency for DeFi, we think it’s a natural next step for us to put our money where our mouth is and launch a DAO.

One of the catalysts for this is when the DAOHaus team approached us for PR support in May 2021. Samantha Yap, founder of YAP Global Ltd, had hung out with the DAOhaus team and joined her first ever DAO, OrochiDAO a party DAO, at Devcon 4 in Osaka.

Given that there are so many DAOs and projects that need PR but might have the budget to engage YAP Global Ltd, and after brainstorming sessions with DAOHaus, we settled on the idea of launching a PR DAO that will service them to kick off, and which will evolve to welcome more communicators and marketers to service more DAOs.

Here’s an overview of the vision and mission behind YAP DAO:

THE PROBLEM:

The DeFi industry is lacking communicators, marketers, content creators, social media managers, designers among other non-technical roles.

The ecosystem needs more facilitators who provide guidance on how to shape discourse in an effective and productive way, or risk becoming an echo chamber that the mainstream world may never understand.

YAP DAO’s Mission:

To bridge the communication gap between emerging technology and the mainstream world.

YAP DAO’s Vision:

A world where DeFi is common knowledge and easy to understand.

YAP DAO vs YAP GLOBAL LTD

YAP DAO and YAP Global Ltd are two different organisations and will operate independently from each other. There might be some overlap in terms of the individuals involved to start out with, but the vision is for the DAO to be run by its members in a decentralised way.

Entry requirements for new members

Entry is permissioned but growth is encouraged. Any potential member will be accepted if they meet the minimum requirements:

• 500 DAI stablecoin membership pledge (a pledger may receive governance tokens)
• At least one of the following: PR/Comms experience, DAO/crypto experience, OR Enthusiasm and a willingness to learn in either of the above areas.

You will need to be a member to service clients via the DAO, but if you want to be a part of the community and contribute in another way, you can pledge anyway!

There may be a token launch in the future and early participation and initiative will be rewarded in some way.
