Adam creates
Adam’s creation is one of the most storied creations of Michelangelo. There are many analyses of this famous work with varying interpretations of the iconographic portrayal of the creation of man with deep cultural significance- not only in the 16th century but even now.
I am using the above image as an example of design appropriation- yeah I basically appropriated (and photoshopped!) Michelangelo’s work (can you spot the difference?)- to explore the driving motivation behind science fiction without being limited by ‘science’. For a moment if we consider science just a tool, we can use the above imagery to explore- why Adam desires something more? I think that could help us better see the link between fact, fiction and culture.
Without trying to mar the self-discovery of the observer, I would point to few things:
- Fact- Adam desires something more.
2. Fiction- what Adam seeks to attain.
3. Culture- the iconography.
