The Story. My friend and I were doing our usual grocery shopping. When we got to the checkout counter, the Trader Joe’s cashier lady actually opened up our dozen of eggs to check for cracked eggs and made a point to show us that they were all in great condition.

Key Takeaway: Having the customer’s interest in mind builds loyalty. Even through little things like egg checking at checkout, it shows that the business actually cares about its customer’s experience: they don’t want anyone to leave the store with cracked eggs. This was the first time any cashiers ever checked our eggs. Needless to say, I was very impressed and immediately took out my phone to take note of it.

Think about what are some little things that can make a big difference in your customer’s point of view?

Update 9/16/15: Jeremy from the above link recently bought eggs again from Trader Joe’s in Oregon and this time the cashier not only checked his eggs but also put a rubber band around the container to make sure it stays shut. Talk about innovation, Trader Joe’s employees are always finding ways to improve the egg checking experience.
