As 2017 ends, I reflect on what I build, what I attended, what I learned, what I taught and what I want to do in 2018.
2017
January
- Published my first app, UPK, which uses NYC Open Data to show public universal pre-kindergarten schools.
- Organized a Women Who Code Meetup event featuring women in iOS.
February
- Published a sticker pack, Dope Sticker Pack.
- Attended the Lead Dev NYC conference on a scholarship.
March
- Attended iOSCon in London on a scholarship.
- Published my second app, theGrindTimer, a version of a Pomodoro timer for productivity.
- Taught a two week front-end development course to 9th and 10th grade students.
April
- Published a second sticker pack, Sakink.
May
- Attended Collision Conference in New Orleans on a scholarship.
June
- Started reading some iOS Big Nerd Ranch books, at the advice of Henry M Ly.
July
- Started documenting/blogging the daily white-boarding problems I solved.
- Started working on a ube-everything app with Jhantelle Belleza.
August
- Updated my website with Bootstrap and raining tacos.
September
- Worked on daily CodeFights.
October
- Reviewed object-oriented programming and software development fundamentals.
November
- Learned C#.
- Familiarized myself with the Visual Studio IDE.
- Learned how to write (and love) unit tests.
December
- Published my third app, I See I Say, a kindergarten sight word flash card app.
2018 Goals
- Extend one of my apps for the Apple Watch.
- Create an Amazon Alexa skill.
- Go easier on myself — not everyone learns the same way.
- Make that anti-mansplaining app I talked about and be sure to include tests for it.
- Figure out RxSwift.
- Build a mobile app with React Native and ship it to Google Play store.
