If your kids are going from one activity to the next at camp or spending the day at the pool, their backpacks travel with them, and so does their lunch. Whether it’s tossed in the grass as they splash around the pool, or shoved under the seat of a bus while singing camp songs, they need snacks that can last as long as they do. Here are a few energy-boosting, backpack-safe snacks to fuel your kid’s fun.

1. Peanut Butter Pretzel Energy balls

These three-ingredient energy balls are easy for parents to make and a sweet treat for kids to snack on before activities. All you need is one-third a cup of pretzels, one cup of pitted Medjool dates, and two tablespoons of peanut butter. In a food processor, blend the pretzels and set them aside. Then blend together the dates and peanut butter, and roll them into ping pong-sized balls in your hands. Lastly, roll the balls in the crushed up pretzels and cool them in the fridge for an hour before packing them in your kid’s lunchbox.

2. Mini Applesauce Muffins

These mini muffins are the perfect substitute for applesauce pouches that would get hot sitting in a backpack all day. This recipe is packed with vitamins, whole grains, and has the option to be baked without excess sugar. Throw in some blueberries for some extra antioxidants if your kids gravitate towards blueberry muffins.

4. Dried Fruit

With the summer heat, it’s easy for packed fruit to get mushy fast while in a backpack. To make things easier but still remaining delicious, grab some dried fruit from your local grocery store, or make your own from your kid’s favorite fruits.
