The Importance of Family

I absolutely love my family! They are there when I need them, and they continue to support me with everything I do. My number one supporters are my parents. They motivate me to do anything I want, and of course, they financially support me. My family is very serious about loving one another. As small children, we are taught to love each other and to always cherish each other, because we are always going to be family. Another thing that is key in our family is forgiveness. No matter what we go through, we will always forgive each other for what ever was done wrong. We are very close, and we do not let anyone tear my family apart.

One of my favorite things to do is spend time with my family. Every first Sunday, all of my family meets at my grandmother’s house for dinner. We call it “First Sunday Dinner.” Everything from fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, collard greens, potato salad, dressing, and more are served. Afterwards we all spend time together. Sometimes we even break out into songs, and we start singing. It’s very interesting to watch everyone, especially after you’ve grown a little. Last dinner, I remember watch the young kids playing outside, climbing the tree. It brought back so many memories of how much fun I had as a kid in that tree. It’s amazing, because climbing that tree has been going on for generations with the kids.

We all fight once in a while, but in the end we all love each other and have each other’s back. We all support each other by attending each other’s events such as sport games, recitals, and performances. We enjoy sharing our talents with each other. My family is huge on music. We are full of musicians and singers. Just about all of us can sing, and a quarter of us can play instruments. My family is known in the gospel community. It started with my grandmother being involved with the church and the choir. From then on, her children sung, and my dad played the organ/piano. Then a few of my cousins picked up instruments, and now they have become very talented musicians. They play for people such as Bobby Brown and Cee lo Green.

It is important to have your family, because in the end, they will always be there for you. Somtimes you will fight, but you will have to forgive each other and continue to love each other. My family motto is, “One Family, One Love,” and we will always continue to live by this. We believe if we all have one love, there’s nothing that can break us apart. I am so grateful for my family, because I know that some people don’t have what we have. Some people have even told us that we are something special, and they’ve never experience something like our family. At the end of the day, I love my Family!
