Once a person was born, what makes them to transform in a good shape of a member in society?

It is EDUCATION, whether by institutes or people or themselves.

As we all know how important education is, at the same time education inequality has been an issue in society. While some kids have good quality education and getting ready for incoming future, some kids miss those opportunities to find the right education for their future.

“ Some children do worse at school than others because of circumstances beyond their control, such as where they were born, the language they speak or their parents’ occupations. These children enter the education system at a disadvantage and can drop further behind if educational policies and practices reinforce, rather than reduce, the gap between them and their peers. These types of inequality are unjust.”

and here is ReDi school to tackle this problem! ReDi School provides education for disadvantaged kids especially focus on Technology.

It is very clear that technology is the key of the future. We live daily life surrounding by Technologies. If you live in developed countries, almost everyone has their own smartphone or laptops. It becomes an essential tool since it brings so much convenient for our lives, using them from simply playing games on a subway to having all banking system on it. Technology will get into our lives deeper and deeper. Certainly, we need to educate kids to prepare this upcoming era.

I was also a student of ReDi school (for JavaScript course) that’s how I found out about their kids program. Since I am quite interested in education for underprivileged kids (I used to do volunteer work in Korea to teach English for underprivileged kids), it made me wonder what is going on with Kids program and decided to visit their Demo Day.

The day was on 2nd of June Sunday. Even though it was sunny shiny Sunday, instead of going to the swimming pool they choose to come to ReDi school to participate in the Demo Day.

Most people are families from the students and also teachers. I felt really respectful for the teachers who are willing to spend their free time on weekends to educate the kids. So much giving and loving energy in this community.

There were 14 teams to present their projects and the teams were divided into two groups, which are age with 6~11 and 12~16.

It was such a cute and impressive presentation from the students.

6~11 age groups were presenting their outcome through videos. I loved the fact that they filmed them very naturally so It was not just showing what they built but also each student’s character. It made the audience smiling and enjoy the videos a lot :D

12~16 age groups were presenting their projects on the stage by themselves.

It was quite impressive to see the websites they coded with HTML & CSS. I just got to know how to code when I was 30 years old!!

look at this girl what she coded! so awesome!

I could see that they are not learning only technical skills here but also soft skills such as teamwork and presentation skill since some of them worked together with others and had to prepare the presentation.

A couple of groups were presenting their game app project. Most children love playing games and it must be so exciting experience for them to build their own game! and Yes I could feel that when they were presenting their project with so much passion.

In the end of each presentation, every student, received a certificate and you could see on their face how proud they were for their great achievement.

At the end of demos, people vote which project they like the most with stickers. I was sitting behind the room, one red sticker was hanging on my figure. One kid saw this and came to me and asked if I can vote for his team. He was too cute that I could not reject his request :) Those who got the most stickers received cool medals.

It was getting ended with a speech from organizer and funder and I would love to mention about the funder, who is financially supporting Redi school kids program.

It is PxP embassy-http://pxpembassy.org/. PxP embassy is also a non-profit organization that it empowers children through education. They have been held PxP Festival since 2016, which is a benefit concert that raises funds for activities to help children in Germany and abroad. They said the concert for this year was held right before the demo day. I would love to join the concert next time to be part of supporting their projects.

While I was attending the event, I saw many potential next digital talents and happy that they could have this opportunity of experiencing technology and finding interesting in their age. Also huge appreciation to ReDi school and PxP embassy for all the efforts to make better situation for the children. People are aware of this kind of problems but not many actually take actions to solve the problems. At the same time it is essential to build our world better for the next generation or just for our own species Human, to happily fulfill our lives. I hope as many as disadvantaged kids can participate in this awesome program and to find a career in the digital sector.

If you want to support them as a volunteer teacher, funder or having partnerships whatever will be helpful, please don’t hesitate to contact them. Let’s spread Love ❤
