Learn the System and Work It
Learning the system is often better than just being talented
I have worked for many different sales organizations, all of which had slightly different systems surrounding the sales process. If I have learned one thing in my sales career it’s that you MUST learn the system that you sell in and do it better than anybody else.
If I have learned one thing in my sales career it’s that you MUST learn the system that you sell in and do it better than anybody else.
There was a time a few years back that I was not performing how I wanted to in my role. I was right in the middle of the pack on my team, but I wanted to be the best. I knew I had the chops to be successful, but I didn’t know what I wasn’t doing to be the best on the sales floor.
I did something that immediately changed everything and propelled me to the top 10% of my team.
I shadowed the best sales rep in the company.
What happened after sitting with the best in the company for just a few hours isn’t what you might expect. I didn’t become a better salesman. I learned the system.
So much of sales is the system. You have to have the chops, but when you pair that with perfecting the system you sell in you will find great success.
You can have the best hammer, but if you don’t know the best way to swing it you will become inefficient. Get a great hammer and then learn how the masters use it.
