Adele requested Spotify to remove the option to shuffle the tracklist on ‘30’
The singer of the record-breaking “Go Easy On Me,” whose song became Spotify’s most-listened-to-globally tune in a single day, has requested that the shuffle option be removed from her new album, “30.”
“We don’t create albums with so much care and thought into our track listing for no reason,” the pop artist said in a tweet to the music app on Friday.
“Our art tells a story and our stories should be listened to as we intended. Thank you Spotify for listening,” she further added.
The “shuffle” icon no longer appears within the larger “play” icon as it does during Album View on Spotify for Premium customers.
“Anything for you,” wrote Spotify while responding to Adele’s tweet.
Christ Macowski, Spotify’s head of music communications, confirmed the shift to The Verge. “As Adele mentioned, we are excited to share that we have begun rolling out a new Premium feature that has been long requested by both users and artists to make play the default button on all albums,” he said.
“For those users still wishing to shuffle an album, they can go to the Now Playing View and select the shuffle toggle,” he further added.
It’s worth noting that the new album’s lead single has remained at №1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 and Apple Music’s Top 100 for four weeks, and is currently being closely followed by every other tune on “30.”
