The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention stated late Tuesday that the US is planning to require all inbound overseas visitors to be tested for the coronavirus one day before departure, regardless of vaccination status.

The Biden administration is also considering requiring a second test within three to five days of arrival, as well as possibly requiring travelers to quarantine for seven days — measures that have already been implemented in other countries but would be a first at the federal level in the United States.

People who have not been fully vaccinated or who have not recovered from covid-19, as well as those aged 60 and older and those at high risk of severe disease from covid-19, should postpone travel to areas where the virus is spreading, according to the World Health Organization.

As governments across the Americas, Europe, Africa, and Asia face rises in cases, much of the world has become one of those locations.
