You’re just not feeling it, and that’s okay

Don’t feel bad for a lack of enthusiasm. But don’t feel content, either.

“I’m just not feeling it.”

This is definitely something that we’ve all thought at some point in our lives. Whether it be towards our day jobs, checking off mundane daily tasks—or even when it comes to our calling from the Lord. You know, sometimes we just don’t feel it. And honestly that’s totally normal.

Don’t feel bad for a lack of enthusiasm. But don’t feel content, either.

There’s real tension here, guys.

The reason we don’t show up blazin’ everyday comes from us realizing this important truth: we can’t do this life without God. Most people would confuse this tension as insecurity in their lives. But it’s not insecurity, it’s a thoughtless traipse through our own ambition without ever turning back to Jesus to steer it. Why do we think that we can do it alone?

When we come to the realization that we need God more than we ever thought, we’re stuck. We’re convicted. We’re sidelined, and nervous and sorry for all the days and nights we spent ignoring the Lord’s call on our lives.

More than ever, that moment should lead to a new vibrancy.

Check your perspective—please.

Perspective is everything. How you view this tension affects your actions towards it. If we never felt convicted of needing God, we’d never fulfill the calling He placed on our lives.

We’ve got a relational God. He’s constantly working—weaving opportunities for the relationship between us and Him to grow throughout every situation and circumstance we are a part of. The tension is good, but only if you use it to refocus your perspective.

“Now it is always good to be enthusiastic about good — and not just when I am with you.” Galatians 4:18

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Don’t just stay there.

Do not stop. Seriously, there’s an enemy that wants you to stay in the middle of the tension. But the longer you stay in the middle of the tension, the more you mistake the tension as an insecurity. The enemy can’t steal your calling—but he can make you insecure about it. Don’t give him that power.

Keep going. Keep pouring out. Keep investing even when you don’t feel like it.

Take the time to give your ambition back to the Lord, so He can renew you and send you forth with a fire in your heart and a laugh deep inside your soul. Oh, that we’d always be enthusiastic about doing good, at every moment and with every gift given to us.
