When I was in college, deciding my career path seemed like the most daunting decision in the world. I took a million of those dumb online quizzes — just hoping to get the answer handed to me on a platter.

But no online quiz is going to tell you your future. You need to look inward.

Start with your passions

What gets you up out of the bed every morning? What are you doing when you completely lose track of time?

That’s what you love.

Now, let’s say you uncover — you love cars, you don’t have to start a dealership. Or maybe you found you love baking, you don’t have to open a bakery.

Think about what you love about those things

You might love cars because of the speed and exhilaration. In that case, you might be successful working in a fast-paced startup with a competitive culture.

Baking might be a time for you to be creative and experiment with new recipes. Maybe hop into a career where you get to be artistic and have autonomy!

Once you know what’s at the root of your passions — chase those career options. Take up jobs, volunteer opportunities, and internships. Test out and find what fits you best.
