Faith Sharing Tip: Bridge the Gap

The lines in politics and ideology are growing stronger in our society. For some that is concerning, and for others, inevitable. Undoubtable you feel an urge to fight for and vote for what you believe is right and in line with Christian values, and you feel frustration and possible distain towards those who vote otherwise. It is what you believe, and beliefs can get people fired up.
The challenge with that is, however, even if you could force everyone to vote for laws that model Christian values, it wouldn’t bring people closer to Jesus.
This is because sin is inherent in human nature, and no rule of law can fix it, only Jesus can. Jesus never tried to change a law, but He did always stand for truth when asked. While Jesus spoke out against sin, he never picked political sides. That’s why he asked a tax collector and a freedom fighter to both be His disciples.
As Christians, we bridge the gap between factions and politics, because we have a love that surpasses people’s worldview.
We not required to agree with anything others believe, but we are required to be invested in loving them. We are called to bridge the gap. Whether it’s enjoying their company, their bad jokes and showing an interest in their hobbies and family, we get to befriend people from all ideological camps and bridge the gaps that seperate us.
Just because someone’s ideology seems to be an enemy of freedom, that doesn’t make them your enemy.
Therefore, we are called peace-makers, where sharing our faith is seeing past ideology and into the eyes of a person who God is passionate about. Pray for God’s love to grow deeper in your friendships, so that your friendship is more powerful than any ideology.
It’s the Jesus in your heart that they need, not your politics.
