Chinese New Year/Lunar New Year/Spring Festival

One holiday, three names! One of several Lunar New Years in Asia, celebrants honor ancestors and clean out the old year and bad luck to welcome in the new. Gifts and money are exchanged to celebrate prosperity and long noodles are served to represent long life. Parades and dances and fireworks celebrate life and community and scare away bad luck.

Holi

Literally explosions of colors! This festival celebrates Spring’s arrival and the blossoming of love, embedded in a chance to play, laugh, forgive and forget. Plus—THE COLORS!!!

Hanami

’Tis the season to step outside and stop to smell the cherry blossoms. Beautiful, ephemeral, fleeting flowers last for only a few weeks, and the entire community watches the forecast and then meets together to eat and drink beneath the blossoms…lovely!

Easter

Easter is another spring celebration that celebrates the coming of Spring with color and food and family. Eggs represent the rebirth of Earth and the reawakening of life after a cold, sleepy winter.

What else?!

This is only a small sampling of a panoply of parties to welcome Spring—tell us your favorite and why!
