Understanding YGGDRASH 1 : STEM CHAIN & BRANCH CHAIN

Greetings from Team YGGDRASH.

It seems that many people are having a hard time understanding the concept of Stem Chain and Branch Chain, the most important parts of the philosophy and the technology of YGGDRASH; however, they are in fact already familiar ones to us.

I am confident that anyone who did not watch the famous Thor franchise from Marvel Studios are only handful. (If you have not seen one, I highly recommend you to watch them. THEY ROCK!)

“A thousand hearings are not worth one seeing.” Just like this famous adage, the scenery of Thor franchise is a great visual example of the concept of the Stem Chain and Branch Chain presented in YGGDRASH.

YGGDRASH is a compound word of Yggdrasil (the mythical world tree from the Norse mythology) and Hash, and is similar in many respects to the worldview of Thor franchise which is also based on the Norse mythology.

There are a total of nine realms in Thor, and they are all connected. The nine realms listed below operate independently with their own rules and regulations: Asgard, Vanaheim, Alfheim, Nidavellir, Midgard, Jotunheim, Svartalfheim, Hel, and Muspelheim.

And there is a gigantic world tree that these realms belong to Yggdrasil, shown a glimpse during the closing credit of the first Thor movie, is the world tree. In Thor universe, many events and accidents happen in different realms, but they actually occur on Yggdrasil at the same time.

As you may have noticed, those nine realms are the Branch Chains and the world tree, Yggdrasil, resembles the Stem Chain of YGGDRASH.

The Stem Chain to which many Branch Chains are connected is a path that connects blockchains to blockchains like the trunk of Yggdrasil, and is the base blockchain of YGGDRASH which contains the minimum information (address information, etc.) about all Branch Chains. The amount of information owned is minimized to reduce capacity and maximize efficiency. In addition, transaction performance can be improved while providing a more satisfying environment for service users. The Stem Chain is also responsible for the creation, modification and destruction of Branch Chains.

In YGGDRASH, each Branch Chain is an independent DApp and a blockchain at the same time. Because they are independent blockchains, all of them have independent governances, consensus algorithms, and token economies. Unlike the worldview of Thor, YGGDRASH can have an infinite number of Branch Chains.
