As part of our preparations for YGLF 2019 Code Camp we’re excited to share with you another interview, in the series of interviews, with this year’s amazing speakers. Hear their stories and their professional insights. This time we’re with Una Kravets.

Q: Tell us a bit about yourself

Hi! I’m Una! I’m the Director of Product Design at BDG Media, which means that I oversee the UI/UX of Bustle, Elite Daily, Romper, Gawker, and The Zoe Report. I’m a designer, developer, tech writer and speaker, who has traveled all around the world giving talks after starting two meetup groups (in Austin, TX and Washington DC). I currently live in Brooklyn, NY where I cohost the Toolsday developer podcast and make candles when I’m not building random demos or playing with new technology. I’m also an avid audio book listener, and am always trying to get better at playing ukulele.

Q: Who is your favourite tech thought leader and why?

There are so many inspiring web developers out there that it’s really hard to choose! One person who comes to mind is Sarah Drasner, who is always producing quality content in a really interesting and consumable way. I love her blog posts, experiments, talks, and overall attitude in the tech community. Thanks Sarah!

Q: What advice would you give yourself at the outset of your career?

Don’t narrow yourself too early. Give yourself time to explore everything — there are so many topics you can dive deep into with front-end development! It’s an exciting time, so let yourself learn everything.

Q: What will you teach us at YGLF Code Camp 2019?

I’m going to be talking about CSS Houdini! It’s a really exciting emerging technology that will change the way we write CSS. I can’t wait to meet you all and talk about experimental CSS, and also the changing role of a front-end developer in this technical environment.

Thank you, Una!
