The following shows an image, a poem and a song respectively. All of them represent me or my thoughts in some sort of way:

This picture shows a school of fish swimming together. Firstly, it represents that we are all in a school. But mainly, it shows how all of us combined are trying to survive in a demanding and relentless environment, in the fish’s case, the ocean. In our case, Melbourne High and eventually, the real world. It also shows how we need friends and companions to help us along the way and that we need to stick together to survive.

Don’t Quit by Anonymous

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest, if you must, but don’t you quit.

Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about,
When he might have won had he stuck it out;
Don’t give up though the pace seems slow–
You may succeed with another blow.

Often the goal is nearer than,
It seems to a faint and faltering man,
Often the struggler has given up,
When he might have captured the victor’s cup,
And he learned too late when the night slipped down,
How close he was to the golden crown.

Success is failure turned inside out–
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far,
So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit–
It’s when things seem worst that you must not quit.

This poem shows how you should never give up and keep persisting. This is relevant to me as my life has become harder over the past few months and I need to constantly persevere to keep up with the demand. Quoting a line from the poem, ‘Rest, if you must, but don’t you quit.’ This relates to me trying to not give up and keeping up with the work as it comes.

There’s a hero
If you look inside your heart
You don’t have to be afraid
Of what you are
There’s an answer
If you reach into your soul
And the sorrow that you know
Will melt away

And then a hero comes along
With the strength to carry on
And you cast your fears aside
And you know you can survive
So when you feel like hope is gone
Look inside you and be strong
And you’ll finally see the truth
That a hero lies in you

It’s a long road
When you face the world alone
No one reaches out a hand
For you to hold
You can find love
If you search within yourself
And the emptiness you felt
Will disappear

And then a hero comes along
With the strength to carry on
And you cast your fears aside
And you know you can survive
So when you feel like hope is gone
Look inside you and be strong
And you’ll finally see the truth
That a hero lies in you

Lord knows
Dreams are hard to follow
But don’t let anyone
Tear them away
Hold on
There will be tomorrow
In time
You’ll find the way

And then a hero comes along
With the strength to carry on
And you cast your fears aside
And you know you can survive
So when you feel like hope is gone
Look inside you and be strong
And you’ll finally see the truth
That a hero lies in you
That a hero lies in you
That a hero lies in yo

I don’t listen to much English music let alone music in general so I had to do quite a lot of digging for this one. Hero by Mariah Carey is a song about courage and that you have to face tough problems head on without putting them off. This resonates with me as I am continuously having to deal with quote on quote hard problems such as procrastination, whether its getting up in the morning or the decision between homework and browsing the internet.
